I always feel that researching the topic for which you are designing consistently has the potential to lead you to unexpected and often times surprising outcomes. This redesign of a classic checkers set is no different. It turns out that checkers, or games like checkers, have been played for thousands of years. Using ancient Greek vase art as a basis for my illustrations, I created this stunningly detailed checkers set. On the front of the box, you can see Achilles and Ajax taking a break from war to play the game. The two are being watched over by Athena, the Greek goddess of war, and they play late into the evening. This was printed using a large format printer. I designed the box and die cuts, and folded and put the box together.
